Seiko has gone all out on this watch from their higher-end Prospex collection. Not only is this watch a 2 sub-dial chronograph with a date window, but it also comes with a solar-powered movement.
Of course, it the SSC081 also has a compass function that is controlled by the alternate crown at 10 o’clock. The standard crown for date and time setting is at 3 o’clock of course, and above and below it are the two pushers for controlling the chronograph.
In terms of style, this watch is quite modern and will suit almost anything you wear with it. The stitched brown leather strap gives it a more casual feel, along with the busy dial with the oversized hour markers.
Seiko has given the SSC081 100m water resistance, so you can certainly get it wet, but with a leather strap, swimming with it is definitely not practical!
The Seiko Atlas or Landshark is quite a remarkable watch in the Seiko 5 Sports series because it comes with 200m water resistance. Something you certainly won’t normally see on these budget-oriented watches.
But that is not all that is impressive on this affordable watch. It has a 23 jewel automatic movement with a day/date function and of course a compass function.
The compass is controlled by the secondary crown at 9 o’clock (also protected) which rotates the inner bezel ring in matte black.
As this is also a diver watch it has a screw-down crown and a uni-directional bezel for setting the dive time. The hands are also very utilitarian yellow, which is great for those wanting legibility on a watch.
Overall, quite a unique Seiko compass watch with a myriad of great features.

This is the kind of watch you get when just one complication is not enough. This aviator watch has almost all of them: a slide rule on the bezel, compass function, tachymeter, date window. 3 sub-dial chronograph, alarm and more.
For many the dial is way too busy to be practical, but if you like the style of such an aviator, then the functionality you get is stunning. And, if you don’t like black, it also comes in blue.
Last, but certainly not least is the classic and also updated and re-issued Seiko Alpinist SARB017.
This classically styled Seiko compass watch is unique enough that you either love it or hate it. The green dial with gold accents is certainly not everyone’s taste, which is why have made it in a few other variations.
Although it is a functional watch with 200m water resistance, a compass and date window, it is very much in the dress style in terms of markers, bezel, and the alligator leather strap. Seiko has also included an automatic movement on this watch, so although it is more dress style, it is not thin at 12mm.
