Additional notes:

The Casio Protek PRG 270 is a great watch for anyone who spends a lot of time in the outdoors. It features Casio’s Triple Sensor, which means that it comes with an Altimeter, Barometer/Thermometer and a digital compass!

But Casio has not just left it at that. They have also included their unique Tough Solar, which means you should almost never have to worry about powering your watch again. Sure, you need to keep it out of the drawer and give it some light quite regularly, but in general, if you wear it often enough, their solar is very efficient, even in low light!

Casio’s Triple Sensor

One of the hallmarks of the Protek range, the Triple Sensor is a great supplement to your usual range of outdoor tools. All of them can and should be calibrated before heading out, and none of them are really meant as your primary tool. For example, the digital compass works well, but I would always have a physical one on me. Same goes for the Altimeter, something that is inherently hard to get perfect. If it is super important to you, I would have a GPS device with me too.

All that being said, these sensors are great to have on your wrist as a backup or addition to whatever else you carry – after all, you can just glance at your wrist. The Barometer is also great for getting weather warnings, which is something you don’t want to be surprised by when out in the mountains.

Full Auto LED (Super Illuminator) Backlight with Afterglow

The Protek 270 also comes with a great Super Illuminator, as Casio love to call it. It is essentially an automatic (tilt your wrist) backlight for low light or darkness. Great for when you are out camping or hunting. Even at dusk or dawn.

Other Casio Features

Just like Casio’s other great watch range – the G-Shocks, these watches have decent water resistance (100m), is designed smartly to be used in tough conditions, and has all the other digital watch features you expect – alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, world time and daylight savings time.
