Brad Pitt's watches

Brad Pitt’s Watches

Born as William Bradley Pitt in 1963 in Shawnee, OK, Brad Pitt is a legendary American actor. He began his career in 1987 and became a leading Hollywood actor. Brad is also a film producer and has won Golden Globe and Academy Awards for both acting and producing.

Watchanistas and horologers are delighted to know that Brad Pitt is also a self-proclaimed “watch guy.” His wild popularity makes him one of the most influential celebs in the entertainment world. In one interview he revealed, “Watches are one of the few opportunities to express yourself and for me, a watch is the most steadfast symbol of what we value.”

Brad is an ambassador for Breitling and Tag Heuer and owns several of the Swiss luxury watches. At age 58, he has gone through several fiances and wives and has six children, but has managed to cling steadfastly to his extensive watch collection which also includes Rolex and Patek Phillipe.

Iconic Brad Pitt Movies

One of the most interesting things about Brad is his insistence on buying his own watch before a movie shoot. He says it helps him “get into a character’s personality.”  This quirk has resulted in lots of vintage watches in Brad’s collection. Movie fans may very well spot one of them in movies like The Fight Club, Ocean’s Eleven and its sequels, World War Z, Troy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and dozens of other box office hits.

One of Hollywood’s most iconic movies of all time casts Brad Pitt in a role with a serendipitous time-related fantasy story. He plays the title role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the story of a child born on the day World War I ended to a mother who died in childbirth. In an earlier scene, a blind clockmaker is about to reveal a clock he built to a crowd in Grand Central Station in NYC. The major event is even attended by President Theodore Roosevelt.

The Curioua scene in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

During the period the old man was working on the clock, his only son was sent to fight in WWI and died in battle. Upon revealing the clock, the crowd is shocked to see the second hand turning backward. In his grief, the old clockmaker had constructed the clock to run backwards so that the events of the war would be reversed.

Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is born as an old man and lives his life in reverse dying as an infant. You may not spot any watches on Benjamin as he goes from old to young, but it’s a riveting story about time. It’s based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Film director Quentin Tarantino brings his love of Hollywood’s colorful history to life by casting Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio back in time in Tarantino’s featurette “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Set in the year 1969, Brad plays the role of Cliff Booth, the mysterious and aloof stunt double and best bud to fading actor Rick Dalton (DiCaprio.) Rick bemoans the deterioration of his career and complains that his only job offer is filming Spaghetti Westerns in Rome.

Although he’s an over-the-hill actor, Rick still lives in a ritzy neighborhood, and Roman Polanski (Rafal Zawieucha) and Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) are his neighbors. Cliff Booth lives in a trailer with his dog. The story premise revolves around an unwitting entanglement with the infamous Charles Manson and his followers and the tragedy that happened in Hollywood on August 9, 1969.

Tarantino and his crew bring the year 1969 in Hollywood back to life with incredible settings from period facades for buildings to details like Cliff Booth’s white pants, Robert Redford hairstyle, and shiny Citizen 8110 Bullhead vintage watch on a thick brown leather strap. The watch actually came out in 1972, but still portrays the fashion of the day. It has a goldtone case and dial and three black subdials. The name “Bullhead” comes from two buttons on top of the watch.

Brad Pitt’s Luxury Watches

Citizen watches are of fine quality, and a vintage Citizen 8110 like Brad wore in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood costs well over $500 on sites like eBay. But when you earn over $30 million a year as Brad does, you have a few luxury timepieces such as Patek Philippe, Breitling, and Rolex in your repertoire.

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711

Patek Phillippe Nautilus 5711
Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711

A gift from ex-wife Angelina Jolie during happier times, Brad’s Patek Philippe Nautilus is a luxury sports watch that can be dressed up or down. The 40 mm stainless steel case has a matching bracelet. The dark dial features baton indices for a minimalist look. A date window is at 3 o’clock, and the lens is a sapphire crystal. It is water-resistant to 120 meters (394 ft.)

Breitling Emergency Watch

As an ambassador to the Breitling brand, Brad has quite a few in his collection. His latest is the Breitling Emergency Beacon Watch. This innovative timepiece is the first in the world with a dual-frequency transmitter and a built-in personal locator beacon. Together, these complications launch alerts and guide rescue missions. The 5.1 case is black titanium. It features a 12/24 hour LCD digital display and Swiss quartz movement. The strap is black rubber.

TAG Heuer Carrera

Like the roles he plays in movies, Brad likes to add versatility to his watch collection. He is an international ambassador for TAG Heuer excluding the US and Canada. His own is a TAG Heuer Carrera with a 43 mm stainless steel case and matching bracelet-style band. The black analog dial features silver hands, 3 subdials, a day/date display at 3 o’clock, and a tachymeter bezel. It’s powered by Swiss automatic movement.

Breitling Avenger Chronograph Watch

Brad has also been seen wearing a Breitling Avenger, a chronograph watch with a distinctive military look and really compliments the rest of his watch collection. It has a 45 mm black titanium case and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The khaki analog dial features white Arabic numerals, 3 subdials, and luminous gunmetal hands, and a date window at 3 o’clock. It’s powered by a self-winding automatic movement. It has a 48-hour power reserve and is water-resistant to 300 meters (1000 ft.) The strap is khaki leather.

While we are talking about Breitlings it is also worth mentioning that Brad has a Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Norton Edition in his collection too. On top of this are the Rolex staples such as the Rolex’s GMT Master II , Rolex Submariner, Rolex Daytona and more.

Microsoft SPOT – SmartWatch (2004)

It may be surprising to learn that Microsoft and Bill Gates were way ahead of the game with the modern Smart Watch. Back in 2004, Microsoft released a smartwatch platform known as SPOT (Smart Personal Objects Technology). Manufacturers such as Fossil, Suunto, Tissot and Swatch were on board to produce the watches.

Microsoft SPOT Smartwatch from Fossil

The watches could do many of the things a modern smartwatch could do such as display weather, stock prices, sports scores and even AOL instant messages (if you remember those!). It was a little before its time and fizzled out a long time before Samsung or Apple jumped into the smart watch scene!

elton john watches

Elton John’s Watches (Style & Bling)

Sir Elton John’s unique blend of Pop and Rock along with his flamboyant fashion style turned him into one of the 20th century’s biggest icons. The British singer, composer, and pianist has sold more than 300 records and won 10 Tony Awards and two Golden Globes. A gifted musician from a very young age, he released his first self-titled American album in 1970 and quickly rose to worldwide fame with unforgettable hits like “Crocodile Rock” and “Candle in the Wind.”

Sir Elton’s consistent chart-topping hits and millions of sold albums brought him a lavish lifestyle he loves. He jets around the world between several homes with his long-time husband including two in his native UK. When he’s in the States, he enjoys spending time at his mansion in chic Beverly Hills, a swanky home in nearby Los Angeles, and a luxury condo in Atlanta.

But Sir Elton became a legend for more than his fame in the entertainment world. He founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992 and became an avid supporter of philanthropy. Upon his dear friend Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997, he reworked and recorded “Candle in the Wind” as a tribute to her with proceeds from the song going to a charity in her name. “Candle in the Wind 1997” sold more than 300 million copies in that year alone.

Nowadays, Sir Elton is still a music and fashion icon and is often seen sporting his wild outfits, colored glasses, and lots and lots of expensive watches. Over the years the legendary Rocket Man has been seen on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Talk, and on stage sporting luxury Swiss watches from Chopard, Rolex, and Franck Muller.

Chopard

Chopard Imperiale
Chopard Imperiale

When Elton John met Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000, they formed a firm friendship. Not surprising, since both had a passion for fashion and helping fight AIDS. Scheufele is co-president and artistic director of Chopard, a Swiss luxury watchmaker. This bond gave birth to the brand’s Elton John Collection to benefit the AIDS Foundation. Scheufele collaborated with Elton John to design watches reflecting his personality and love of bling.

All of the timepieces in the Elton John Collection feature a self-winding chronograph movement with a 42-hour power reserve. A date display is located between 4 and 5 o’clock. The straps are pink, brown, or black alligator leather.

Some of them are more extravagant than others with 18K rose gold cases and adorned with precious gems such as diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Some feature rare yellow, pink, and black diamonds. The case backs are engraved with Elton John’s signature.

Elton John has several Chopard timepieces of his own. During the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards, he sported a Chopard Imperiale. The customized watch has an 18K white gold case and is complemented by a black croc-embossed leather strap. A set of 11.22 carats of diamonds add elegance and more luxury than the Chopard Imperial factory versions.

The Chopard Imperiale Collection’s design is a modern-day representation of great historical empires. Abstract motifs on the dial are inspired by the embroidery on the draperies where monarchs displayed their insignia. They feature Roman numeral hour markers, curved lotus flower crowns, and openwork sword-shaped hands. The shape of the lugs is reminiscent of ancient columns.

Rolex

Rolex Day-Date Platinum
Rolex Day-Date Platinum

Elton John cherishes his Rolex Day-Date Watch perhaps because it has a history as colorful as he is. It was the first watch to display the day of the week spelled out. Released in1965, this timepiece has been dubbed “The President” because of its popularity among American presidents such as Eisenhower, JFK, and Lyndon Johnson.

It’s also favored by Warren Buffet and Jay-Z. It’s crafted in the brand’s 950 platinum and features an icy blue dial. The caliber 3255-movement was developed and manufactured by Rolex. The self-winding mechanical movement is a forerunner in watch crafting and is known for precision, power reserve, and shock resistance.

Franck Muller Cintrée Curvex

Franck Muller Cintrée Curvex

Sir Elton has also been seen wearing a Franck Muller Cintrée Curvex. Set with diamonds, it has a black dial, Arabic numeral hour markers, and a black crocodile leather strap. All of the watch cases in the Cintrée Curvex collection have the iconic Tonneau shape with unique curves and contours.

Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1992, the luxury brand is known for its original designs and complications. Some models feature skeleton dials, perpetual calendars, and chronographs. Sir Elton’s encrusted diamond Franck Muller is outrageously expensive, but the company offers less expensive ones.

Doctor Who’s Pocket Fob Watch – Time Traveler Extraordinaire

Doctor Who has been gracing our screens since it was first aired back in 1963 on British Television. It actually ran for 26 seasons until 1989 when it was taken off air.

However, most of you probably know the more modern Doctor Who TV series from the BBC which was revived back in 2005.

doctor who

Doctor Who, also known as the Time Lord or simply “the Doctor”, is actually an extra-terrestrial who appears human. He travels through time in the Tardis, which is usually depicted as an English telephone booth, albeit in blue.

The Fob Watch in Doctor Who

doctor who fob watch

In many of the series you will see Doctor Who and others make use of a Fob Watch (aka Pocket Watch) for various purposes. It has been used to hypnotise and as a biodata device with the Charmeleon Arch, as well as in many other plot scenarios over the seasons.

No matter what it was specifically used for, the fob watch plays a very central role in the Doctor Who series.

Fob Watch Features

doctor who fob watch face

The Doctor Who fob watch features a clean white dial with Roman numbers marking the hours. There are three sub-dials around the face, the purpose of which I am unsure of. The hands are clean, pointed black, with a slim black second hand.

The case cover has a stunning engraving with concentric circles and related shapes that give it a mysterious feel. And of course, on top is a standard pocket / fob watch button and ring for attaching to a chain (to carry in a pocket).

Where To Buy Doctor Who’s Fob Watch

Not surprisingly, a number of replica Doctor Who fob watches have been produced in varying quality. The majority aim to reproduce the above look and feel. Sometimes in metal, but also in plastic.

It features a sculpted white gold Black Panthar curved around the top of the dial. A stunning Tourbillon at the usual 6 o’clock. And all of that is wrapped n a 42mm sandblasted titanium case with an eye-watering purple rubber strap to match.

LeBron James has been wearing Rolexes for a while now and the Rolex Day-Day II is one that people have seen on his arm from early on in his career.

It is an 18k gold version of the Rolex Day-Date II with a black dial that of course displays both the date, at 3 o’clock, and the day in a larger window at 12 o’clock. This watch has the typical fluted bezel and cyclops magnifier on the date window that Rolex is known for, along with gold roman numerals on the dial.

Rolex Sky-Dweller

Another infamous Rolex that LeBron has been seen flashing about is an 18 gold Rolex Sky-Dweller. A watch designed to be worn by a traveler.

The Sky-Dweller features an off-centre disc for setting and reading the reference time in 24-hour format. The local time is then read using standard center hands. This is another way representation of a so-called GMT watch.

As a traveler who is always changing up which watch he wears, LeBron James of course has a Rolex Yacht-Master II to go on his wrist. he was seen wearing this particular watch while in the crown of the 2016 Rams-Seahawks game in LA.

But LeBron won’t wear just any old Yacht-Master, it has to be 18k yellow gold. This watch is quite unique in its timekeeping because it is actually a regatta chronograph. That means it can do countdowns for races (like Yacht races) via the moveable Cerachrom bezel and the various dial markers and sub-dial.

The Watches The Beatles Wore

Over half a century ago, the Beatles stormed the music world to become what is arguably the greatest recording group of all time. More than that, the “Fab Four” was a worldwide cultural phenomenon that helped shape fashion and set trends. Their influence on the world of watches isn’t as impressive as with some other celebrities. They kept their timepiece choices down to a select few. Here are the favorite Beatles watches for John, Ringo, Paul, and George.

John Lennon (Oct. 9, 1940- Dec. 8, 1980)

Patek Philippe Ref. 2499
Patek Philippe Ref. 2499

A photo taken on his 40th birthday by his wife Yoko Ono shows John happily sporting a Patek Philippe Reference 2499. The yellow gold Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref 2499 was introduced in the early 1950s. It features day, date, month, and moon phase display at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter subdial at 3 o’clock, and a 12-hour chronograph hand at 9 o’clock. The rare timepiece is one of the most sought-after Patek complications watches.

The whereabouts of this Beatles watch remain a mystery. One theory is that the Lennon family sold it to a New York dealer but claimed the watch had been stolen after the dealer put it on the market. They demanded the watch back.

Ringo Starr (July 7, 1940 – present)

Patek Philippe Ref. 3448
Patek Philippe Ref. 3448

The group’s eccentric drummer proudly owned an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe ref 3448. Featuring Calibre 27/460Q self-winding movement and 37 jewels, the timepiece was introduced in 1971. It was Patek’s first serially produced automatic perpetual calendar watch. The brand only produced 586 of them and the model was discontinued in 1982. It displays the day and month below 12 o’clock and a subdial at 6 o’clock displays the moon phase and date.

Ringo and his wife Bond girl Barbara Bach (The Spy Who Loved Me) jointly owned a vast collection of paintings and other treasures which were auctioned off to donate to charity. In 2015, the Patek ref. 3448 brought a premium price of $179,200 at the U.S.-based Julien’s Auctions.

George Harrison ( Feb. 25, 1943 – Nov. 29, 2001)

Cartier Baignoire
Cartier Baignoire

Not much information is available about the soft-spoken Beatles’ lead guitarist’s watch collection. Celebrity experts say George was rarely seen wearing a watch.

British Music entrepreneur and band manager from 1962-1967 Brian Epstein reportedly bought George a Cartier Baignoire. The oval-cased timepiece with many of Cartier’s signature design elements is one of the brand’s most underrated watches. Dating back to 1906, the Baignoire is still on the Cartier line today.

Sir Paul McCartney (June 18, 1942 – present)

Always known as “the cute one,” Sir Paul isn’t a big watch collector, but he has been seen wearing a Patek Philippe Aquanaut ref. 5167A. He has been photographed wearing it often and wore it at his wedding to Nancy Shevell in 2011. Debuting in 1997, this timepiece is a minimalist version of the brand’s iconic Nautilis launched in 1976. This Beatles watch has a rubber strap for a tough, utilitarian look, and the shiny black dial’s hobnail pattern adds sophistication.

The Rolex Day-Date, also known as ‘the president’s watch’, is the ultimate watch of prestige. So, what better watch for a man like Donald Trump.

Striving for excellence and reliability, Rolex watches are designed for daily wear and are suitable for any sports and other activities. These timepieces are intentionally built to last which is visible in their distinctive and timeless aesthetics. No wonder Trump wears this watch golfing all the time.

Another 18k yellow gold watch in Trump’s small collection is the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse. With its refined mesh bracelet and elongated blue dial, it certainly stands out in a crowd.

The Patek Philippe Ellipse was released back in 1968 where the shape was certainly a bold departure from the usual circle everyone was used to. They used the “golden section” mathematical principle to guide the design, which results in a shape that is very pleasing to the eye. Somehow the ratio discovered by Greek mathematicians is found all over the world in art and architecture.

Vacheron Constantin has continued a passion for fine craftsmanship and enduring excellence since 1755. In blending tradition with innovation, the Swiss manufacture crafts every watch into an original work of art with a signature of technical distinction.

The last watch worth mentioning from Donald Trump is the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ultra Fine 1968. It is a square-faced watch much like the renowned Cartier tank, although the lugs are a little different on this watch. It has an ultra-thin automatic 1120 movement which has an oscillating weight and with the Hallmark of Geneva, a rare mark in the watchmaking world.

Tiger Wood’s Watches – From TAG Heuer to Rolex

Tiger Woods is synonymous with golf: he is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time. Aged only 21, he won the U.S. Masters at Augusta in 1997 with a record score. In 2001, after winning the Masters, he became the first golfer to hold all four professional majors at the same time.

Given how successful he has been on the golf course, it is not surprising that he has teamed up with some great names in watches.

Tudor Prince Date 72000 series

Tiger Wood’s original watch sponsorship was with Tudor back in 1997, which is actually a Rolex brand. Tudor was not doing well in the USA at the time and they wanted to get Tiger’s help to relaunch the brand.

They put his name on the top of the Tudor Prince Date, just below the sub-dial at 12 o’clock. It can be seen on a variety of models in this range from Tiger versions of the 79200 series, with Tiger’s signature red in both the silver and panda (below) options and a white text in the reverse panda.

In 2002 Tiger Woods inked a sponsorship deal with Tag Heuer to become their brand ambassador. This deal lasted until he moved to Rolex in 2011. During that time he can be seen wearing the TAG Heuer Link Calibre 16 in the above commercial. Below is another reference from ATG Heuer to that watch.

TAG Heuer also released a limited edition of the Link Calibre 16 with Tiger’s Woods signature red. It had red around the two sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock and accented red round the other at 9 o’clock. There is also a day date window at 3 o’clock as well as a tachymeter around the bezel.

The Rolex Sea-dweller Deepsea is all about depth. It has a water resistance down to 3900m (12800ft) which is a depth that could crush a submarine. It handles these depths because it comes equipped with extensive seals, a thick 5mm sapphire crystal, and a helium release valve. It comes with a 44mm steel case and bracelet with a ceramic bezel topping it all off.

Watches Worn by Mike Tyson

Most of you will know Mike Tyson from his boxing fame, as he was certainly one of the all-time greats of the sport. He competed from 1985 to 2005 and was the youngest heavyweight winner in the world.

He had many nicknames, from “Iron Mike” and “Kid Dynamite” to “The Baddest Man on the Planet” later in his career, many of them perhaps won from his crazy knockout record. Mike Tyson is perhaps one of the greatest boxers of all time.

Mike Tyson was a stunning boxer, but he also likes a lot of bling and extravaganze. From his incredible homes, scattered throughout the USA, and let’s not forget his personal tiger (making a cameo in the movie Hangover) to his mind-blowing jewelry. This guy knows how to rock in style!

So, of course, Mike also wore some stunning jewelry and watches, the prices of which will make you fall off your chair. The majority of them were Rolexes, but there are some other stunners in there as well!

One of Tyson’s most incredible Rolexes is the Cosmograph Daytona Reference 116509-0064. It sells for around $50,000 and is made from 18K white gold and has a white mother of pearl dial. It features a COSC-certified 4130 automatic mechanical movement with a  power reserve of of 72 hours, which is impressive to say the least.

Rolex Datejust 36

Interview at the Conway Show

Heading to the simpler end of the Rolex spectrum, Tyson’s watch shown above is the Rolex DateJust 36mm. It has a silver dial with an Oyster steel jubilee bracelet. There is a typical Rolex cyclops magnifier on the date window at 3 o’clock.

When many people talk about a classic recognizable Rolex, this is the one!

Moving up in terms of bling, the Rolex Day-Date 36 is something you would see on the arm of someone like Donald Trump. It is a watch with pedigree, first appearing in 1956. It is made from 18k gold and has a champagne dial with inset diamonds as hour markers. There is a date window at 3 o’clock, like on the DateJust, but there is a wider day window at 12 o’clock which makes this watch homaged by so many.

Pavè Diamond Piaget

The story behind this watch is a little crazier than most. Mike Tyson was featured in a boxing match in London in 2000 and decided to go on an insane shopping spree while in town. He went to a top-end jeweler and got himself a diamond watch like no other. One that was never paid for and ended up in a lawsuit.

After procuring the watch, he then wore it to the weigh-in, which is something only Iron Mike would do!

Hublot Big Bang Unico WBC – Ref 411.GX.1189.LR.WBC19

Later in his career, Mike Tyson started to have a closer affinity with Hublot, another Swiss watch brand at the top of the prestige list.

In 2019, Hublot worked together with the WBC to raise over a million dollars for the José Sulaimán Boxers Fund. The event in Las Vegas involved giving all the boxing greats a special edition Hublot Big Bang Unico WBC.

Shown below, Tyson’s watch features a green alligator strap, a polished green ceramic case with a matte black skeleton dial, and enough 18k gold to sink a Spanish galleon.

It was limited to 50 pieces.
