The Citizen Promaster Altichron is a stunningly designed, modern pilot’s watch that has all the hallmarks of a classic. Like the Seiko Flightmaster, it is meant as a watch for aviators to use, but is just as popular with those of us on the ground!
Like most watches from Citizen, it comes with their Eco-drive solar movement, so right off the bat you won’t be worrying about your battery running out when you least expect it. However, there is far more to this watch as you will soon see.
The dial of the Altichron could be labeled “busy” but that is how you get so much information in so little space on an aviator’s watch like this. Around the bezel you have a compass ring, and on the inner ring you have altitude. Yes, this watch as an altimeter! It has a height range of 1,000ft – 32,000ft, so should work well no matter where you are.
The timekeeping element of the watch is almost a secondary thought by Citizen, however, the Arabic numerals around the dial are still large enough to read. Even if they are somewhat hidden amongst all the surrounding noise.
They have also snuck in a small enough date window at 3 o’clock, to add yet another handy feature to this very technical watch.
Although black is the dominating color of the BN5058-07E model Altichron, the case back and size is all about stainless steel. The pushers and crown are very prominent and easy to use, with a slight depression on the crown with a fun propeller inspired pattern.
The strap itself is a completely functional thick rubber, so many of you will be wanting to swap this straight out of the box with a more stylish NATO strap that really makes it shine!
And for those of you who are not a huge fan of the black and silver motif of this watch, you can get some more interesting colors too. I have included the photos and model numbers below.
